Iain McNamara is one of our members and a knee surgeon at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and undertakes research with UEA. One of the studies that he and the team are running at the moment he's looking at how people walk after knee replacement surgery. They have recruited and successfully run a trial looking at how people move after knee replacement surgery but now need to compare the walking of these patients to people who have not had knee surgery. If you have not had hip or knee surgery and are interested in taking part then this would involve going to UEA for approximately 90 minutes and then walking in a movement laboratory where cameras will record how you're walking. Small stickers are placed on your muscles to record how the muscles activate at the same time. Researchers can then compare the walking of patients who have had surgery to those people, who are approximately same age, who have not undergone surgery. If you are interested then please see the poster with contact details of the researcher for the team below. We are particularly looking for people over the age of 60 years as this is the usual age for people who are having surgery. |
