Spring Coaching Trip

Our Spring Coaching Trip next year will be to Amendoeira resort in the Algarve, Portugal.

I have managed to secure a 4 night, unlimited Golf package with Flights included plus some nice extras. As always the Trip will consist of both Coaching sessions and play on their two fantastic courses.

Winter coaching packages now available

Tom and I have just launched our Coaching package for this Winter which provides the perfect way to work on your game and make necessary improvements.

It is a great time at the moment to sit down and assess how your game has been this season and to think about how it can be improved. Tom and I can help you do this and set out an action plan for improvement.

Our Winter package consists of 6 lessons to be taken before the end of March 2019, ideally one per month and includes 3 FREE practice sessions in our Swing room with the instant feedback of our GC2 Launch Monitor technology.

Practice Packages

Look out next week also for the launch of our Winter Practice Packages in the Swing room which are always popular.

It provides a great way of continuing to work on your game throughout the Winter months in the Warm and Dry with the tremendous benefit of the instant feedback our GC2 launch monitor provides.

Short game intensive

If you were not able to attend our Free coaching sessions this summer why not join forces with your playing partners and do one of our Short Game intensive coaching sessions.

This is where we will look at your Chipping, Pitching and Bunker Play and again show you the Dave Pelz short Game Handicap practice routine.

The session last 90 minutes and we can take up to 5 people with the cost of the session being £75 or £15pp.

New in-store

We have been really busy in the shop over the last couple of weeks with some fantastic new product coming in to stock.

This includes our new Under Armour range for Autumn Winter as well as our Green Lamb for Ladies and the fantastic new JPX 919 iron range from Mizuno.

The Mizuno irons are now available for fitting so please speak to one of the team if you would like to upgrade your irons.

Titleist TS Range - They are here

I have just taken delivery of the new Ts range of Metals from Titleist both from a stock a demo point of view and also for my own use.

I have been fitted for the TS3 Driver and two TS2 fairway metals and cannot wait to put them in to play.

An all-American affair

Xander Schauffele showed U.S. Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk exactly what he was missing at Le Golf National, as he pulled off a stunning play-off victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai. Schauffele clawed back a three-shot deficit to fellow American Tony Finau, making birdies on the final two holes to force a play-off, before making another birdie at the first sudden-death hole to win his third PGA title. Schauffele was named 'Rookie of the Year' in the 2016-17 season, and is proving his credentials once again this year, despite switching equipment manufacturers at the start of the season.

Rules news

Preferred lies

Now that the clocks have gone back and we find ourselves edging towards winter, many golf courses will have introduced a Local Rule for 'Preferred Lies'.

When this is in force, it allows you to mark, clean (especially important if your ball is covered in mud like in this photo) and place your ball within six inches of where it has come to rest, providing it was on a closely mown area - i.e. the fairway.

If you're unsure on this or any other rule, please come and speak to a member of the pro shop team.

Winter is coming, but we know that won't prevent you avid golfers getting out on the course to face biting winds, muddy shoes and, most of all, rain. Lots and lots of rain. With this in mind, it's more important than ever to have a golf bag which will keep your clubs and belongings dry during a downpour.

What do you take from this?

As golfers, there's nothing more satisfying than a shot which is perfectly executed - even if it is a rare occurrence for many of us. It could be a booming drive which splits the fairway down the middle, or maybe a wedge shot which stops dead, two feet away from the hole. In fact, when you consider how often we use our wedges during a round of golf - see the graph below - the latter is something that we should all be striving to achieve.

So, what do you take from the graph above? In our eyes, it highlights just how important your short game is. We see a lot of you spending time hitting balls on the range, which is great, but don't neglect the less glamorous side of the game when practising - it's where your score is 'made'.

We can't stress the benefits of having wedges that are suited to every aspect of your game either.
