Justin Gets to No:1

It was great to see Justin Rose finally achieve World No 1 status at the weekend. For the second week running he finished 2nd in a Fed Ex Cup play-off event and the points were enough to see him rise to the top of the rankings.

This is great reward for someone who I would consider the most consistent player in the game at the moment, it is also a great boost for our Ryder Cup team to go alongside the four picks Thomas Bjorn made last week.

I feel his choices of Henrik Stenson, Paul Casey, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia are absolutely the right picks and bring a wealth of experience to the team.

New In Store

We have been really busy in the shop over the last couple of weeks with some fantastic new product coming in to stock. This includes our new Under Armour range for Autumn Winter and the fantastic new JPX 919 iron range from Mizuno.

The Mizuno irons are now available for fitting so please speak to one of the team if you would like to upgrade your irons.

Titleist TS Range - Coming soon

Tom and I had the opportunity of hitting the new TS range of metals from Titleist this week.

The TS stands for Titleist Speed and as the name suggests the new design has a number of improvements designed to increase the ball speed.

The clubs look amazing and have a range of new shafts to suit the majority of golfer’s requirements. Tom and I both were fitted in to the TS3 Driver and saw some nice gains in speed. The launch day for the new range is 28 September so only a month to go until you will be able to try the metals Justin Thomas and Adam Scott have been using over the last couple of months.

Callaway Fitting Day

This week I have had confirmation that our Callaway Fitting day has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, 9 October between 1-5pm.

This will be an amazing opportunity to try out and be fitted for the new Rogue and XR Speed ranges.

Short Game Intensive

If you were not able to attend our FREE coaching sessions last week, why not join forces with your playing partners and do one of our Short Game Intensive coaching sessions. This is where we will look at your chipping, pitching and bunker play and again show you the Dave Pelz short game handicap practice routine. The session lasts 90 minutes and we can take up to five people with the cost of the session being £75 or £15 per person.

The heat is on

With the clock ticking down to the start of the Ryder Cup, all eyes are on the players who could make the difference at Le Golf National in Paris. The BMW Championship certainly gave us an insight into who’s shaping up nicely, with Keegan Bradley - who didn't make the USA Team - pipping Europe's Justin Rose to the title on the first play-off hole after both players finished on -20. It wasn't all bad news for Rose though, as finishing 2nd meant he became the world's number one golfer for the first time in his career.

The conclusion of the BMW Championship also saw Jim Furyk make his final Captain's Pick for Team USA, opting for big-hitter Tony Finau - despite Xander Schauffele's fine finish at the BMW. Finau might not win many tournaments, but he is remarkably consistent and a huge hitter, with 11 top-10 finishes in 2018. Schauffele will feel hard done by, but is certainly one to look out for next season.

Meanwhile, Europe Team Captain Thomas Bjorn may be ruing a missed opportunity to choose Matt Fitzpatrick as one of his wildcard picks, after the Englishman beat Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregaard in a play-off to win the Omega European Masters title in Switzerland. Fitzpatrick won the same tournament last year, and becomes the first golfer since the great Seve Ballesteros to defend the trophy – so he’s certainly following the right footsteps!
