Titleist TS Range - Coming soon

Tom and I had the opportunity of hitting the new TS range of metals from Titleist this week.

The TS stands for Titleist Speed and as the name suggests the new design has a number of improvements designed to increase the ball speed.

The clubs look amazing and have a range of new shafts to suit the majority of golfer’s requirements. Tom and I both were fitted in to the TS3 Driver and saw some nice gains in speed. The launch day for the new range is 28 September so only a month to go until you will be able to try the metals Justin Thomas and Adam Scott have been using over the last couple of months.

Competition news

Club Championships

Firstly, congratulations to Karen Young on winning the Ladies Club Championship last week. In what is a very gruelling format Karen led the qualification with super rounds of 77 and a 1 under par 71 and then won her Semi Final on Wednesday morning before defeating Chloe Rowswell in a tight Final.

This weekend it is the Men's turn with 18 holes on Saturday and then 18 on Sunday if you are fortunate enough to make the cut. Best of Luck to everyone competing.

Callaway Fitting Day

Big Apologies to everyone for having to cancel the Callaway Fitting Day this week. Unfortunately our fitting rep, Alex had a family bereavement at the weekend and is understandably having a few days off work. He will contact me next week to get it back in the diary.

Are you playing too much?

I was teaching one of my pupils on Monday when he had a sudden realisation. He told me that he believed that he had played at every opportunity through the summer and had not practiced enough. I think this is so true of most club golfers and of course is perfectly understandable when the weather has been so amazing. However it is so important to keep on top of your set-up and swing fundamentals if you wish to achieve more consistency. I think it is really important to have a lesson once a month throughout the summer and make time for practice. Tom and I are always on hand to offer advice on the best approach for your game so pop in for a chat or contact us via phone or drop us an email here.

Short Game Intensive

If you were not able to attend our FREE coaching sessions last week, why not join forces with your playing partners and do one of our Short Game Intensive coaching sessions. This is where we will look at your chipping, pitching and bunker play and again show you the Dave Pelz short game handicap practice routine. The session lasts 90 minutes and we can take up to five people with the cost of the session being £75 or £15 per person.

Just 4 weeks to go

The Ryder Cup is edging ever closer, with a lot of speculation over who will be chosen as one of the four wildcards on both sides of the Atlantic.

There is an expectation that USA Team Captain Jim Furyk will give one of those spots to a resurgent Tiger Woods, who can now be picked on form rather than reputation after experiencing a stellar comeback season. Others vying for a trip to Le Golf National in Paris are Zach Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Matt Kuchar, Kevin Kisner and Tony Finau, providing Furyk with an embarrassment of riches to choose from.

Thomas Bjorn won’t know exactly who has qualified for his European team until September 2, but the big names – Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm – are dead certs. The bigger question lies in the wildcard picks. Ian Poulter has a fearsome Ryder Cup record, having never lost a singles match, and has played himself into good form this season. Paul Casey, Thomas Pieters, Russell Knox and Rafa Cabrera-Bello are all in contention too, not to mention Ryder Cup veterans Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia.

Setting your sights

How many times do you find yourself lining up your shot and thinking "this is about an 8-iron from here to the pin", only to find that you end up 10-15 yards short of the hole? Being able to utilise accurate yardages is a key step to taking your game to the next level, which is why we'd recommend using a GPS device to ensure you always know exactly how far you have left to the pin.

If you are yet to make the step into GPS assistance, why not try out the Garmin Approach S20? The watch's high-sensitivity GPS receiver gives you the distance data you need to fire away with confidence and hone in on the pin. You'll have distance to the front, back and middle of the green, as well as hazards, doglegs and layups.
