Club news

Well Done to Torin and Mike

Saturday saw our Sidney Gill Qualifier which also was our Lombard Trophy qualifying round. The winner of the Sidney Gill was Torin Grady with an outrageous Nett 58! Torin is only 14 years old and certainly one to look out for in the future, his handicap was cut by 4 shots. As Torin is under 18 he could not win the Lombard so the next best score was posted by Mike Dean with a 67.

Mike will now partner me at Sandy Lodge Golf Club in July in a Regional Qualifying round. The low scoring theme was continued by Phil Sayers on Sunday recording a superb 75 nett 63 to win the monthly medal.

Ireland triumph as others impress

Whilst many of you spent the Bank Holiday weekend basking in glorious sunshine – and we don’t blame you – 16 pairs battled it out in the second edition of GolfSixes. Split into four round-robin groups to begin with, only the top two pairs from each could proceed to the quarter-final stage, which saw both all-female teams (England Women and European Women) and England Men make it through to the final eight. Sadly, all three teams failed to advance to the semi-finals, with England Women losing out to eventual winners Ireland, represented by Gavin Moynihan (who has failed to make a single cut so far this season) and Paul Dunne.

Ahead of golf’s unofficial fifth major taking place at TPC Sawgrass this weekend, Australia’s Jason Day has returned to world’s top 10 after a superb display at the Wells Fargo Championship. Taking place at Quail Hollow – the scene of last year’s PGA Championship – Day shot a gritty 69 on Sunday to finish two clear of his nearest challenger, admitting afterwards that he ‘had no idea where the ball was going, especially off the tee.’ For those of you wondering, yes Tiger Woods did play but he finished in a lowly tied 55th.

We are running a Men's session on Wednesday, 23 May at 10.30 and a Ladies Session on Thursday, 24 May also at 10.30am.

Our latest Fitting day last week with Callaway was a great success with many members taking advantage of the opportunity to try the latest clubs in their range. If you were not able to make the day speak to one of the team about arranging a fitting.
