Handcuffed to bits - Limbert secures Colman Bowl!!
So last weekend saw an excellent field of 94 players compete for the very prestigious Colman Bowl, a 36 Hole Medal event and one of the 4 Men's Majors. There was some brilliant scoring in warm, tricky conditions, but after a particularly tidy first round of 67 and a steady second round of 71, Stephen Limbert prevailed as the victor! As I'm sure some of you are aware, Stephen works very hard at his game with regular lessons and practice, continually striving to improve. So it's always nice to see hard work rewarded! Stephen's also playing in the Trilby Tour this week at Bawburgh, so I'm sure he'd welcome a few friendly faces for some moral support!
Dominant Ongs storm Coronation Salvers
The bank holiday weekend also saw the staging of the Coronation Salvers at Sprowston Manor with a record breaking field of 83 pairs!! Eaton again had a very strong presence at the event, however the headlights were stolen by the father and daughter pairing of James and Nellie Ong, who produced an outstanding 43 points to win the Salvers by 4 points. Having witnessed this fine round of golf, I can personally vouch for how well Team Ong played!
Particular credit must go to Nellie, who was competing in her first big tournament. Not only did she handle this amazingly well, she also produced a short game exhibition, getting dad out of trouble a couple of times (sorry James!!). Congratulations to you both again!!

Noren amongst the world's best?
Sweden's Alex Noren began Sunday seven shots behind the overnight leaders, only to produce one of the very best final rounds the European Tour has ever seen to win the BMW PGA Championship by two shots.
In what was a display of magnificent ball-striking, Noren fired eight birdies and an eagle on the 18th to break the Wentworth West Course record and claim the European Tour's flagship event. This win - his 5th in the past 12 months - sees Noren now sitting 8th in the World Rankings, firmly established amongst the world's elite heading into the second major of the year in a few weeks' time.
But there was also another story which grabbed our attention from the week's play at Wentworth. Ernie Els chipped in for eagle from the rough at the par-5 12th only to proceed to call a two-shot penalty on himself for putting his ball back in the wrong position from a plugged lie. After his round Els explained that he had lifted and checked whether his ball was plugged before he hit his shot, and was uncomfortable with how the ball came out and wouldn't have been able to live with his actions had he not called a penalty on himself.
A brilliant display of honesty and sportsmanship from the 'Big Easy' when he could easily have picked his ball out of the hole and marched on to the next tee without saying a word.
