Fantastic weekend at club
What a great weekend we had at the club with Captain's Charity Day on Friday and the 20th staging of our Freehold Trophy on Saturday.
Our Captain, John Butler did an amazing job on Friday and was supported by 25 teams in raising money for Marie Curie, the amount has not been confirmed yet but it was significant. John not only organised everything but also managed to lead the winning team in with a superb 14 under par score.
Saturday saw the 20th anniversary of our Freehold Trophy which celebrates our purchase of the Freehold back in 1997. It of course is a significant moment in our history and it was great to see it so well supported this year. We had two full shotgun starts and congratulations to the winners, Chris Cooper, April Cooper, Gavin Sargent and David Lonsdale who get the honour of having their names on that beautiful trophy.
Congratulations to Gillieson team
I must say a big well done to our Ladies Gillieson team who went to King's Lynn on Sunday and pulled off a 3-0 victory.
King's Lynn is always a hard place to go so this was a great win and the reward is a home draw in the next round.
Have you updated your equipment?
We have had another busy week in the Pro Shop on the fitting front with members updating their equipment going in to the season. Michael and I have been conducting fittings both inside and out helping members to use the easiest and best for their game characteristics.
Remember to take advantage of our Complete Equipment Solution where with any purchase of a set of Clubs we are offering a FREE fitting and FREE lesson. This is the ideal opportunity if you are looking to purchase some new clubs for the new season.
Speak to one of the Pro Shop team to arrange your FREE fitting.
European Tour returns to the UK
Each year, the week before the spring bank holiday, Wentworth Club plays host to the BMW PGA Championship; the European Tour's flagship event. It's one of the few times each year where we get the chance to see some of the world's best golfers compete on our shores.
It really is a stellar field this year. Defending champion Chris Wood will face some stiff competition from a host of rising stars such as Tyrrell Hatton, Andy Sullivan and Matthew Fitzpatrick, not to mention major champions Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose. It's going to be a belter.
One other person who will be teeing up in Surrey this week is past Ryder Cup player Edoardo Molinari. Now it's always interesting to learn a bit more about Tour golfers and what they get up to in their spare time, but you'll never believe Molinari's hidden talent…
